Important Cities
An important City was the capital Persepolis. The magnificent palace complex at
Persepolis was founded by Darius around 518 B.C., although more than a century
passed before it was finally completed. Persepolis was inspired and built by
Mesopotamian models. Persepolis was a large bare plain, surrounded by mauve
cliffs with sharp edges. It was the seat of government and summer palace. The
Macedonian conqueror captured Persepolis in 330BC and some months later his
troops destroyed much of the city.

Persian land contained silver and gold which the Persian took advantage of and built a coinage system . Trade was extensive, and under the Achaemenids there was an efficient infrastructure that facilitated the exchange of commodities among the far reaches of the empire.
Herding
